September is Here!

Something New

This September we are introducing a new blog format! Our blog will become a monthly event.  Each month will have its own spin on what is new here at Miniature Gardens by Donna.   This month check out our new tool cards on our tips for gardeners page..  These hover cards will give you a glimpse into the practical and sometimes odd tools I use regularly. You will also find a seasonal gardening tip for indoor or out door gardening. There is also new featured product that you can find here in our shop or check us out on Facebook.

Gardening Tip

Dried Zinnia seed heads without flower petals against the wall.
Zinnia plants with seed heads and flower petals.

Fall is in the air, and it is the perfect time to collect seeds from your favorite plants.  I love saving Zinnia seeds. They are easy to collect.  Just, clip the dak seed heads (See pictures above) and put them in a zip lock baggy.  Next spring after the danger of frost has passed just sprinkle them in your flower bed and just rub them in to the soil with a rake or your hand to lightly cover the seeds.  It’s always good to leave several seed heads on your plants for the migrating birds and garden creatures to enjoy. Plus you will have the wonderful gift of free seedlings popping up in your flower bed. Which is always more fun than weeds popping up.
